A Brother's Love is True
When I was very small
only four years old
My mother had a baby
who was good as gold
~~~~~~~
His cheeks were round and rosy
his eyes were sparkling blue
I loved to sit and watch him
as he grew and grew
~~~~~~~
Time was passing quickly
his legs were growing strong
"I'm sure that he'll be walking
before too very long."
~~~~~~~
I can still remember
on the cold winter days,
he'd throw his toys, in the fire
to see the great big blaze
~~~~~~~
He thought that he was something
standing there straight and tall
but give him a few minutes
and he would surely fall
~~~~~~~
With his playpen stored in the attic
where his walker is folded up
"My brother has finally done it,
now he's all grown up."
~~~~~~~
A bundle of joy, he was back then
but now he's not a baby,
his teenage years had just begun
when everything went crazy
~~~~~~~
My temper had gotten the best of me
on a hot summer's day.
When I broke a chair over his arm
this time it was not play
~~~~~~~
And that is when my heart was broken
when all that I could see
were two sparkling blue eyes
staring sadly up at me
~~~~~~~
I said that I was sorry
but he will never know
just how much I really meant it
and how I felt so low
~~~~~~~
How could I have hurt him,
when he was there for me
in my times of terror
when noone else could see
~~~~~~~
He tried to be my hero
and instead became my friend
always by my side,
through thick and thin
~~~~~~~
Since then I have married
and he's away at school
I miss our times together
when curfews were a rule
~~~~~~~
So my guardian angel
with eyes of sparkling blue
I know that you've watched over me
cause a brother's love is true
~~~~~~~
But as this time flows past us
I recall my memories of you,
this bond we have is forever
"Dear brother with eyes of blue."
